mufin’s B2B audio recognition now available as a free demo in the Google Play Store

mufin’s audio identification can now be tested, simply and without commitment. The technology provider has released three demo apps in the Google Play Store for the audioid in-app, audioid server and audioid live channel detection products.

Audio identification can begin as soon as the app is installed. For each of the demo apps, the mufin website offers advertising, movie clips or TV and radio streaming for playback. The audio identification function of the app can be used on these streams.

The audioid in-app demo includes a database with the acoustic fingerprints of selected advertising clips. These clips can be replayed on the mufin website. When an ad clip is played back, the demo app also extracts acoustic fingerprints from the microphone signal and compares them with the reference database. If they match, the test clip is uniquely identified. Since the reference database is located in the app, no internet connection is required for the identification to take place.

The audioid server demo app functions in the same way as the audioid in-app demo – except that the reference database is located not in the app, but on a server. This makes it possible to build a very large reference database and to recognize massive volumes of audio.

Acoustic fingerprints are constantly being extracted from the audio signals from the radio and TV streams listed on the mufin website and stored in a reference database. When a live stream is started, the demo app of the audioid live channel detection captures the audio and converts it similarly into acoustic fingerprints. The software compares the fingerprints from the mobile device with those in the reference database. If they match, the app identifies the broadcast channel uniquely and determines the exact timestamp.

The technology provider mufin sets new standards in audio recognition with the latest major upgrade of its technology. Now, the database search in mufin’s audioid toolbox is much faster. The improved performance allows all audioid products to be operated on smaller budgets.

To recognize content in TV and radio, a reference database must be created. audioid extracts an acoustic fingerprint of the audio from TV or radio and sends it to the reference database for comparison. Once the identical fingerprint has been found in the database, the TV or radio content is identified.

Lars Fabig, Director Business Development: “This database synchronization is a continuous process and requires a large amount of server instances for high-content projects. We have succeeded in optimizing this search process enormously. Faster database searching means fewer CPU resources and lower operational costs. So the improved core algorithm makes significant cost savings possible, regardless of whether our customers own the products themselves or simply host the products.”

In order to give each customer project an optimal balance between speed, error tolerance, and operating costs, the new upgrade comes in two configurations. One configuration is geared towards broadcast monitoring projects, while the other configuration is optimized for mobile use cases where a higher level of robustness against acoustic interference is important.

27.08.2013, Berlin – mufin will be at the IBC2013 in Amsterdam and will present its products and technology to broadcasters, producers, developers and advertising agencies. The presentation will include an exclusive preview and release of mufin’s latest product update for the audioid live channel detection system CDS 2.0 that encompasses amongst other features increased support for time-shifted viewing. Once released, CDS 2.0 will be implemented into ZAPITANO’s Social TV app. According to Marc Mogalle, CFO at ZAPITANO: “With mufin we have a partner on our side that enables our customers to see in real-time on a second screen what they are actually watching on TV. Das Deutsche Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI) hat sich im Projekt Voice2Social u.a. gemeinsam mit der mufin GmbH, der Aufgabe gestellt, Impressionen und Musikeindrücke während eines Clubbesuches festzuhalten, zu kategorisieren und anschließend mit Freunden über die sozialen Netzwerke zu teilen. Dies soll die Interaktionsmöglichkeiten in mobilen Situationen fördern.

14.08.2013 – Bereits seit 2006 beschäftigt sich das DFKI mit multimodalen Interaktionstechnologien zur Nutzung sozialer Medien. Ein Bestandteil des Forschungsprojektes Voice2Social ist die Entwicklung einer mobilen Applikation, die es erlaubt, mittels der integrierten mufin Musikerkennungstechnologie Zusatzinfos zur gespielten Musik sowie den direkten Kaufzugang zum Originaltitel noch während des Clubbesuches zu erhalten. Dabei muss der Nutzer die V2S-App starten und den Aufnahmeknopf drücken. Nun wird mit dem Smartphone ein 10-Sekunden Ausschnitt der gespielten Musik aufgenommen. Die mufin audioid in-app recognition Technologie erkennt innerhalb weniger Sekunden den Track. Der Anwender kann anschließend Kategorien (Soundeigenschaften) hinzufügen, sich mit dem V2S-Webservice verbinden und eine Nachricht in den sozialen Netzwerken teilen.

Dies ist einerseits für den Anwender von Interesse, da er durch die nahtlose Integration auf seinem Mobiltelefon die Eindrücke und Musikfavoriten über den Clubbesuch hinaus konservieren kann. „Die Erkennung der gespielten Musik in Kombination mit den Ortsdaten des Clubs ermöglicht das Anlegen von ortsabhängigen Playlists oder Ausgehtipps mit authentischen Prelistenings der Clubatmosphäre“, betont Stephan Baumann, Head of Competence Center Computational Culture beim DFKI. Andererseits ermöglicht es der Musikbranche, wie beispielsweise Plattenfirmen und Produzenten, weitere Einnahmequellen zu generieren.

Baumann fügt hinzu: „Wir haben die mufin GmbH als Software-Partner gewählt, da im Berliner Voice2Social-Projekt sowohl von der räumlichen Nähe zum Partner als auch von der skalierbaren und robusten Technologie profitiert werden konnte. Die Ergebnisse des multimodalen Forschungsprojektes zeigen, dass sich Nutzer schnell und bequem durch die intuitive Nutzung und einfache Handhabung der Musikerkennungs-App über Audioeindrücke informieren und austauschen können. Deshalb ist das zukünftige Ziel des Projektes in weiteren Aktivitäten die Anwendung in ein Produkt zu überführen und auch Dritten den Zugang zu den Musik- und Clubkollektionen zu ermöglichen.
