mufin is your music discovery engine, that will let you easily discover new music among millions of tracks. With the sound that you dig!
- How does mufin differ from other music services?
The main difference to other recommendations is that mufin’s music recommendations are based on the sound of the music itself. Only the similarity in sound decides whether a track is recommended or not. See “The music recommendations” for further details.
- Where does mufin get the music from?
mufin gets its music from the record labels.
- Does it cost to use mufin?
No, mufin is 100% free.
The music recommendation
- How can I get music recommendations and discover music using mufin?
First, find a track in mufin’s music catalogue using the search function that you already know and like. Then mufin will show you music tracks that sound similar to it, allowing you to discover new music.
- How does mufin know which tracks sound similar?
Every track in mufin’s music catalogue has been analyzed and its musical essence has been stored. When mufin recommends tracks to each other, it means they sound similar and have a similar musical essence.
- What’s exactly in the musical essence?
The musical essence contains the sound properties of a music track, which form the basis of mufin’s music recommendations. For example, rhythm, tempo, sound density or instrumentation are some of the criteria used to measure the similarity of music tracks to each other.
- What’s advantage of music recommendations based on sound?
You have a greater diversity compared to traditional music recommendation services as genre, origin, popularity or ratings of a music track don’t play a role with mufin.
Further possibilities of the music discovery machine
- What is the “Discovery Dashboard”?
You can get to the Discovery Dashboard at your personal „My Page“ after logging in. That's where you not only get a fast overview of what other people are discovering and which new tracks mufin holds in store for you but also which tracks you have been playing recently with the mufin player.
- How can I share my discoveries with my friends?
Once you have found a track you want to show your friends, the only thing you have to do is clicking the „more options“ button and „send to friends“. Besides, you can send messages to other people or invite them to discover new music themselves when clicking on „Invite Friends“ on your My Page. You use Facebook or Twitter? You can also show your favourite songs on your Facebook profile sent directly from you mufin player or let your Twitter followers know which sound you are currently into.
- Can I buy music I discovered?
Sure. Just click the “Buy” link to see where you can buy and download the specific track.
- How do I create playlists?
When you have found a track you like, you can add this track to your own playlist by clicking on "More options". You can create, rename and save as many playlists as you like.
If something doesn’t work
- mufin is displaying false information, for instance, about an artist!
Click “More options” and then “Report false data” to let us know if there’s anything wrong, e.g., false song title or sound preview.
- I clicked on the "Buy" button but my track is not available from iTunes.
The link to iTunes may not lead to the desired site. In such cases you can report the error to us here and continue searching on iTunes manually.
- I can't log in. What’s wrong?
Please check you spelt your email address and password correctly. If you have forgotten your password just click on “Forgot password?” on the login screen. If you still can't log in please contact us using the feedback form.

We will treat your details strictly confidential and not disclose them to any third parties. For further information please take a look at our privacy protection policy.
- Can I change my user details?
Yes. You can simply change your user details by clicking on "Personal settings" in "My page". You can also change your email address and password here.
Software & Widgets
- What are widgets and what can they be used for?
With mufin Widgets you can add mufin to your Facebook profile and discover new music directly from there. You can then share new discoveries with your friends or add your new music discoveries to your profile for others to hear. Get mufin for Facebook here!
- Where is mufin for iTunes?
As mufin for iTunes requires important technical updates, it is no longer available for download. Up to this point, we cannot predict when there will be an updated version.
- How much does the mufin player cost and what can I do with it?
The mufin player is for free. The player does not only organize your music collection by sound but also lets you scrobble your music to Last.fm. You can further post songs you have listened to to your Facebook profile and create messages for your Twitter account containing selected tracks you would like to share. Besides, the mufin player lets you fill in missing song infos easily, creates matching playlists automatically, burns Audio CDs and lots more. Try it out right here.

- I'm a musician or label. How can I add my songs to the music discovery engine and have them recommended on mufin.com?
To start off with, register for free at mufin.com. Afterwards, you can sign up here for free as an artist or label and upload your music files to add them automatically to the music discovery engine. Once you uploaded your music, the tracks will be processed and then recommended to music that sounds similar.
